5 out of 5 stars Not sure if working right   September 8, 2010
bigmow
I have been on the diet for 22 days. I have lost around 9 lbs, but am feeling backed up and having only one bowel a day. I am taking Jorges belly fat cure drink, but am not seeing much change. Maybe I am eating too much meat and cheese or am not getting enough fiber. I love this plan, have been tracking all. I also do drink Michelobe Ultras a few nights a week which are 0/0. Any advice, I dont feel like quitting, but I feel I should see more results. I started at 300 lbs and wnat to get down about 80lbs.....please help.

2 out of 5 stars Good Idea   September 7, 2010
Creative Notion (Derry, nh)

I have mixed feelings about this book. The diet is easy but incomplete.

The Good:
I am doing a modified version and was able to lose 6 lbs the first week. Keep in mind I am considered 'obese' and have a lot to lose. I wasn't as tired as usual. I think He's on to something with Sugar making America fat but don't think this is the complete solution. We eat way too many processed foods and sugar. I think it is a start to get you thinking in the right direction.

The Bad:
Here's what I don't like about this book:
1. His tone. If you read the book he says over and over that thin people are beautiful and fat people are ugly. He constantly repeats this in different terms. Not very inspiring, understanding or true! After the first chapter, I was disgusted with his tone.
2. There is no mention in the book about symptoms you are likely to experience on this diet. I went through sugar withdrawal on the 4th day with terrible headaches.
3. If you look at diet reviews for this book on other reputable sights this diet is given low scores as a fad diet.
4. His limit of 15 grams of sugar seems completely random and not tied to any actual facts or figures.
5. He totes this book as a "Lifestyle" and not a diet. This book is simply too restrictive to be a lifestyle. At 15 grams of sugar a day you would have to basically eliminate all fruits from your diet permanently. At one point he does say you can re-introduce one or two pieces of fruit after you lose the weight - However, he also says that you can never have a 'cheat' day or go over 15 grams of sugar. That means you can never have a holiday treat, a piece of cake or some healthy fruits. Again, I see this diet as an 'induction' into the sugar-free world, but definitely not a permanent solution. If you are looking for an actual lifestyle plan that is workable I highly recommend the "Sugar Addicts Total Recovery Program" by Kathleen DesMaisons
6. And finally, the recipes Look great with pretty glossy pictures, but I was not able to find ONE single recipe that didn't require special ingredients that he 'endorses'.
7. Also, all his fast food "belly bad" recipes are replaced by prepared at home foods. There is NO help or info in the book about good eating out options.

So 2 stars. Good concept that could be presented in a much friendlier and more helpful manner.

5 out of 5 stars This is the best cookbook hands down!!!   September 3, 2010
Jo Carrington (utah)
I love the recipes in this book!!! Out of all the recipes that I tried, there have only been two that we didn't love. The whole family thinks the food is fabulous! We only did the belly fat cure itself for one week because we are into fitness and the low fruits and veggies isn't healthy for long periods... but the diet itself helped us drop those last, stubborn 5 lbs. and we found great new recipes to boot!!! I have made some substitutions on the butter (changed to olive oil) and added more fruit and veggie side dishes and what great meals!!!! This is a must have book if you want yummy food! We did not like the pancake recipe... the soy flour was not yummy!!! Otherwise... go for it! You won't be sorry.

5 out of 5 stars It Just Makes Sense   August 28, 2010

The whole idea of limiting refined sugar just makes sense. Diabetes is rampant in the US population and it's being diagnosed at younger ages. This program is an easy way to become aware of our sugar intake and nealy painless way to reduce it. To top that off, you can lose the belly fat. How great is that!

3 out of 5 stars Another high protein and fat plan to lose weight   August 27, 2010
Kay C. Wood
I have no doubt that one could lose weight with this. But it, like other "food plans", does get boring. I understand the biochemistry. It makes sense, but sadly our lives are radically different than they were when we were living in caves and foraging for food. More power to the person who can keep this up indefinitely. As for me I love fruit and veggies. Like other high-protein and fat approaches to eating, fruit and veggies are severely limited.

Another caveat, all the recipes for 4. If you prepare meals for a family or have unlimited freezer space, then this is good plan. But if only one person in the house has a weight problem or you are single, then the buying and preparing some of meals is another pain-point to consider. Maybe Jorge should come out with Belly Fat Cure for Singles. (-:
