a vegan's favorite June 26, 2008 Lauren B. Beissinger (Brevard, NC USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
(Attn vegans: It does contain bee "pollen"....) I have loved spirutein for a while now. Though, I have narrowed my selection down to : Chocolate, vanilla, and the cookies n' cream. They're amazing. I try to drink one a day to make sure I get enough protein(14 grams per scoop) and vitamins. It's quick and easy. Especially if you have a single-serve-blender. ( I highly recommend the Hamilton Beach version, best $17 I've ever spent) These spirutein powders need a blender, even though they say "just stir in." That's not happening. For best results combine: Spirutein powder, Milk or milk-alternative, and a thickener (ice-cream, banana, etc) and a couple cubes of ice is nice. Some flavors need a tbsp of sweetener. The choc. powder with a scoop of soy/rice vanilla ice cream and 8 oz. milk-substitute becomes the best Wendy's Frosty you've ever had. The vanilla powder with a banana, milk-subtitute, a tbsp of honey, ice and walnuts sprinkled on top is so delicious. Enjoy. And remember, protein is important if you want to keep your hair!
Great Taste and Nutrition June 19, 2008 E. Brown (Kansas City, MO) I love to have Spiru Tein for breakfast. It also makes a great snack and good meal replacement if you're trying to lose weight, lots of nutrients and gives you energy. I've tried a lot of protein shakes and this is my favorite. I make the vanilla flavor with 8 oz. of light vanilla soy milk, 4 oz. of water, two packets of splenda, a little cinnamon, nutmeg, and a touch of vanilla then mix with a hand mixer (shaking does NOT work well!) add some ice and voila! It's really good (it has a green tint, but it's good!). I ordered the Strawberry Shortcake flavor and it had that chemical smell and the first time I made it by itself (w/just fat free milk), I couldn't even finish it, it tasted so bad. Then I tried it again with the splenda, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg and it's MUCH better, I can at least finish the can I have. Then I got the variety pack...so far I've tried the Double Fudge Crunch and the Cookies n' Creme which had good reviews, but I didn't care for either one. I still have a few more flavors to try from the variety pack, but I think I'll be sticking with the Vanilla! Just wish it wasn't so expensive, but if you think about what you spend a month on fast food meals, it's is a better value it's better for you!
Strawberry and OJ March 27, 2008 Beck! (Safety Harbor, FL) I've tried a number of protein powders and all of them except Nature's Plus Spiru-Tein were too sweet. Using a hand blender, I mix a scoop of Strawberry with 2 oz. of OJ and 6 oz. of water plus a fortifying tablespoon of flaxseed. The OJ rachets up the taste of the Strawberry. I've found that the handmixer really thickens the drink to shake consistency. I have tried other flavors, but keep coming back to the Strawberry.
Great, neutral taste, nice consistency March 25, 2008 J. Galbraith I have been using this powder for a few years now. It blends well and has a taste that is not overwhelming to whatever you are mixing in it. Great with bananas, frozen berries, etc. Not too chalky or thick.
This makes a great shake March 23, 2008 S. Oconnor (Boston, MA) This makes a great shake once you use a hand mixer. I think the flavor is great. Simply a wonderful product I've recommeded to my family.
