Product Description GU Energy Gel is specifically formulated to energize your body during exercise. Using GU during your regular workouts will keep your mind alert and active, and your muscles going strong. GU gives the most concentrated form of immediate energy with no stomach bulk or distress, is quickly and efficiently absorbed, and will maintain your blood sugar at the optimal level for a great workout start to finish. GU Energy Gel contains maltodextrin, the best complex carbohydrate for delivering energy to working muscles. GU also contains the optimal balance of carbohydrates for the body during exercise: 80% complex/20% simple. It is this balance of maltodextrin and fructose in GU that delivers a quick rise in blood sugar and maintains that glucose level for up to 45 minutes during exercise.

GU is my preference January 4, 2009 Dave of KC (Shawnee, KS United States) My wife and I run and bike; for the longer training runs (and rides) we like to take some energy gel with us, essentially to keep us fueled up and to avoid bonking. She prefers Hammer energy gel, I prefer GU. If you are looking for something like this, and haven't tried any of these out, I'd recommend finding a local running store (which will probably carry several varieties) and go buy a number of individual packets, and trying them out that way, first. You will pay more per packet, although you can get a good feel for the different types and any possible issues that you may have. For instance, the Hammer packets are more difficult than the GU packets to open. It will also have the added benefit of letting you figure out if one of these works better for you than the others; since everyone is different. Personally, for me, everything I have tried has been pretty equivalent. If you have used these, note that the GU Espresso Love has double caffeine, as opposed to the others. The variety pack is good because it will give you a bunch of options and you can mix up your choices for longer runs.
Great energy burst November 25, 2008 Randall Goff (Los Angeles, CA) Gu is a great workout energy burst, without the caffine like effects. Works best if you drink a lot of water during the workout.
best energy gel on the market October 20, 2008 MEGAN OHARE This is the best-tasting, most effective energy gel that I have found to date. The Tri-Berry actually tastes really great, and the caffeine is great to keep you going. I have found that if I take 1/2 packet at a time it is just enough to give me a burst of energy but not let me crash. I use them for 10 miles or more, generally about every 5 miles thereafter.
GU is not Gene Upshaw BUT.... October 10, 2008 Cindy V (Virginia) I had absolutely no intention of buying any GU Energy Gel the day I signed on to look up what all the GU emblems stood for on the football helmets and football fields. Well now I know that it was in honor of hall of famer Gene Upshaw who passed away in August. But I also found this stuff, read about it, read the reviews and ordered some. It is GREAT...what an unexpected discovery! It tastes good and it actually DOES give me a burst without drinking a lot of coffee and having to pee! LOVE IT!!
great boost of energy during workout October 9, 2008 Nat in Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh, PA) gives me energy during long runs and other endurance sports - very easy to eat during a run, like having the option of 4 different flavors - I have tried all but Espresso Love so far (not a coffee drinker) and the other 3 taste great
