After I injured myself from overtraining late last year(l like to jog a lot), I started studying up on vitamins and minerals as a way to build up and heal my body. I found out how important Vitamin D is not just to your bones, but also as a means to asborb other nutrients.
When checking the different brands, I decided to go with Source Naturals since I have had previous experience with this brand. I purchased the 3 pack from Amazon. It was priced resonably. Each bottle contained 200 tabs. At 2 tablets per day, this will last for awhile.
After taking this for three months, overall my physical system is stronger. When I get a slight cold or headache, it clears up pretty quickly. My injuries have healed up(I'm able to run again). Great product from Source Naturals and nice deal from Amazon.

Having to take calcium for osteopenia, I also need to take Vit D to help my body absorb the calcium. Purchasing OTC calcium with D already included does not provide the amounts of "D" my doctor wants me to be taking. He recommended this product be taken with my calcium at bedtime and Amazon offers it at the best price I've found to date.
Taking this since my diagnosis of osteopenia seems to have warded off full blown osteo, at least for now. I guess every little bit helps.
4 stars for quality, delivery, packaging(after all, how much can one 'like' taking pills)? I save 5 stars for stuff I truly love...like jewelry and food! (giggle)

Most doctors won't tell you that Vitamin D has many benefits, among them reducing the incidences of colds and flu. While everybody else at hubby's job was out with Swine flu, he stayed well. Unfortunately, I have experienced illness this winter -- however, I haven't been ill as often, and each illness has been less severe than in the past several years. My husband takes two tablets a day, and I take one.
Another benefit that I didn't expect is that I've lost weight without trying. My husband hasn't lost any weight, but then he doesn't need to.

I have used Source Naturals Vitamin D3 for 3-4 years, started when a friend I work with had skin leasions and cause was diagnosed not getting enough Sun, He remedied this with his DR.'s advice by going to the tanning salon and using Vitiman D, I have light skin with freckles and some ocasional slight skin problems and decided it would do no harm and may prevent problems, it seems to be working, I purchased this from Amazon seller because it is exactly what I had been using, was looking for, and offered at a good price, I will be looking up seller again when I need more. Thank's

While price may change slightly from time to time, none of the other brands at the time of this review approaches Source Naturals in terms of price. At the moment, without even getting the better subscription price, a 1000 IU tablet is right close to 2.6 cents. When we evaluate the price of all competitors at this time and add shipping where it applies, we find that each of them costs a very high percentage more than this per 1000 IU tablet. Usually they are at least a penny more per tablet and that is a large percentage. If somebody provides a price in a review, we still have to check the math. I already saw incorrect math applied in the review of another brand. In this Source Naturals offer we're getting 600 tablets. When we multiply 600 by 2.6 cents, we come very close to the price at the time of this review.
(UPDATE on 12/31/2009: I paid 15.67 when I bought this at the non-subscription price and today is goes for a lot more than that. What a difference! Please adjust accordingly all that follows in this review.)
One can compare this roughly 2.6 cents price to brands simply by multiplying 2.6 with the number of 1000 IU tablets and verifying as I did at the time of this review that they're all higher priced. One has to add shipping costs where they apply. One could assume that a 2000 IU tablet is equal to two 1000 tablets and the other brands are still pricier when we add shipping costs where they apply. But it is widely advised to take this vitamin in 1000 IU doses at a time, not 2000 IU doses, and for now the current defined tolerable upper limit for sustained daily intake of vitamin D is 2000 IU per day.

Source Naturals is one of the brands of choice of a nationally recognized chain of high-end healthy whole food stores. You'd recognize the name but I'll not mention store names in reviews. We can buy this brand there or at other trusted stores for much more per tablet, and in fact I have looked and not found as low a price for vitamin D at any grocery, pharmacy or big box store.
Why take Vitamin D:
In this year 2009, the media has reported studies that show American adults have a high rate of being low in vitamin D. Our skin produces vitamin D in response to sunlight and we also get it in fortified foods such as milk. The problem is we're not getting enough. The TV talk show doctors and cable network medical advice show series have bombarded Americans this year with advice to take vitamin D supplements.
Low vitamin D levels are linked with cancer, heart disease, various types of infections, osteoporosis and immune system weakness. The good news is that taking vitamin D supplements in the correct dosages and in optimal amounts (one's doctor would be responsible for determining optimal amount) is a very easy and effective way to help protect our health. And vitamin D tablets are not expensive, particularly at this Source Naturals price through Amazon.
Personally, I purchased this product through Amazon and all the adults in my household take vitamin D tablets everyday. The tablets are small and easy to remember to take once a routine is established.
